Portugal were crowned champions of the first UEFA Nations League after beating Holland in the Porto final.

Goncalo Guedes scored the only goal of the game as host nation Portugal recorded a 1-0 win in front of their home fans.

After only featuring as a substitute in the semi-final victory, Guedes returned to the starting line-up in place of Joao Felix and provided the decisive moment in the second half.

The 22-year-old received the ball on the edge of the penalty area following a brilliant cut-back from Bernardo Silva before unleashing a ferocious first-time effort past Jasper Cillessen in the Dutch goal.

The keeper managed to get a hand to the ball but was not able to stop it from hitting the back of the net.

It was Guedes third goal in his last eight games for the European Champions and put the hosts on course for their second international trophy in three years.

Holland came close to equalising just six minutes later with their best chance of the game, but Portugal keeper Rui Patricio was able to produce a smart stop to keep Memphis Depays header out.

That was as close as Ronald Koeman team got and Portugal were able to see the match out to ensure that the home fans would be the ones celebrating at the final whistle.
